Eastern Sierras

  • WEST WALKER: This freestone stream runs for nearly 100 miles from above Leavitt Meadows on the eastern edge of Yosemite National Park along the end of Highway 108 then follows Highway 395 to Topaz Lake before eventually merging with the East Walker River in Nevada.
  • BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR: A larger body of water in the area and a popular spot for boaters, which is the best way to fish the lake. Year after year, some of the biggest browns and rainbows in Mono County are caught here.
  • EAST WALKER: The East Walker River runs 8 miles along Highway 182 from the Bridgeport Reservoir into Nevada before emptying into Walker Lake. There are also a couple popular fishing sections just across the border in Nevada.
  • EAST CARSON RIVER: Home to the rare Lahontan Cutthroat and the Paiute Cutthroats, an even rarer species only found in Carson River’s tributaries. The East Fork is a 61 mile long tributary of the Carson River running from Sonora Peak in Alpine County, California to Silver King Valley joining Silver Creek before turning north to Markleeville and ending at Carson Sink.
  • UPPER OWENS RIVER: Flowing from Big Springs into Crowley Lake, the Upper Owens is a year-round fishery, with big brown and rainbow trout and easy access. Casting from the bank and wet wading are the best ways to fish this winding river through the Long Valley Caldera which is scattered with hot springs and primitive campsites.
  • CROWLEY LAKE: The main lake is rather vast and deep with rather steep walls making it mainly accessible by boat. The afterbay is accessible by foot and leads a few miles down an old railroad grade alongside some good deep holes.
